Miles has been dedicated to western martial arts in one form or another since 1998. Upon completion of his term of service in the U.S. Army (Infantry), he spent 2 years studying Unarmored Combat with the Society of Creative Anachronism. In 2001 he joined Das Heiligesturm Fahnlein (DHF), a historical reenactment organization focusing on the military history of Germany in the early 16th century. With DHF he has served as both Board Chairman and Captain, co-founded an advanced training system focusing on military drill and weapons handling for practical and theatrical applications, and helped introduce period fighting techniques based on fighting manuscripts of the 15th and 16th centuries. In 2008 Miles dedicated himself to a four year study of the German fighting manuscripts of Joaqim Meyer.
Miles is passionate about teaching, bringing his experience to the field of Western Martial Arts. He is a promising instructor, particularly with younger students, getting people excited about history and inspiring hearts and minds. He continues his learning both as a student of western martial arts, and developing his teaching skills under the mentorship of Christian Vivo.
Professionally, Miles works for Symantec as a Principle Software Engineer and Development Manager, working on the Norton line of security products.
